In order to answer that question, Bincom Global has provided a platform where you can volunteer to impact the tech community and affect lives in your spare time.
You are not just helping someone in tech but as you do so, Bincom Global has records of what you have done and can also be referenced when securing or landing a new role
How do I volunteer with Bincom Global?
To volunteer with Bincom Global, you are to fill out the online form here.
How much time do I have to commit?
Depending on the role and level you are volunteering for, the time and hours you need to spare may differ but we do ensure that all our volunteers spend at least a minimum of 6 months with us.
What training will I receive?
Depending on the team you choose to volunteer with, Bincom Global will provide you with exceptional guidance and mentorship in order to carry out tasks that will be assigned to you.
Do I have to fulfil a certain number of assignments each year?
No requirement to undertake a minimum number of activities
What if my circumstances change and I can’t commit to supporting Bincom Global?
Bincom Global recognises that a career in IT can ebb and flow and that availability will vary accordingly. We expect that you carry us along by sending an email a month if your circumstances change and you find that you cannot commit to supporting Bincom Global.
What if I don't want to work on a project I am engaged with?
Please let Bincom Global know as soon as possible and we will arrange for an alternative volunteer to take over the project. We would ask that you help and support the new volunteer in terms of making the handover as seamless as possible.
What if my skills don’t match the needs of the project?
If this is the case, please let Bincom Global know as soon as possible and we will arrange for an alternative volunteer to take over the project. As stated above, we would ask that you help and support the new volunteer in terms of making the handover as seamless as possible.Â
In addition, we would like to understand how the mismatch happened – did the project need to change, or were they misinterpreted? Or is our record of your current skill out of date?
Will I get Paid?
No. All volunteers are expected to work pro bono (i.e., free of charge). Where there are travel and subsistence costs, these may be recoverable from Bincom Global – but you would need to agree on this in advance with Bincom Global.
Can I promote my business as a Volunteer in Bincom Global?
No. Bincom Global volunteers are regarded as independent and vendor agnostic. You should not use your position whilst volunteering to promote any self-interest.
What checks are made when I indicate Interest?
Bincom Global will endeavour to check that its volunteers are professional, trustworthy, and have the required level of passion, skill levels and appropriate experience. We check these values in several ways – through reviewing LinkedIn and other social media channels and, on occasion, by requesting references.
How many days per week will I be volunteering?
You’ll typically volunteer five days a week, including some weekends.
Is there a fixed schedule for the number of working days?
Aside from daily standup meetings and required classes, volunteers have flexibility in their daily schedules for task completion.
Will I get to work on tasks/projects related to my field or knowledge track?
Yes. Volunteers are assigned to their respective teams where they get to work on tasks centered around their knowledge track.
What framework or methodology does Bincom Global use while handling projects?
We primarily use the Agile framework.
Can I leave the programme before the 6-months period?
Yes, you can, but please ensure you provide one month’s notice to allow for a proper handover.
What happens if I leave before the end of the 6-months period with no prior notice?
You’ll be blacklisted and will not be eligible for a recommendation letter.
Can I volunteer for more than 6 months?
Yes, you can volunteer for periods longer than 6 months.
Can the third and final interview be done at a later time than given?
The third interview is a video-based online interview that should be completed within the time given, but send us an email if you would like an extension.Â
When do I get to join the team?
You’ll be introduced to your team when you are onboarded and added to the Bincom Tech Network Workspace on Slack.
When will I be assigned tasks and work on projects?
Your team lead will assign you tasks and projects once you complete your orientation and Bincom Academy Training.
What tasks will I be handling during the 6 months tenure?
You’ll handle tasks tailored to your specific knowledge track during this period.
Do I need to pay for the Bincom Academy Class?
No. The Bincom Academy is a paid programme but volunteers are offered a full scholarship.
Will I be hired or considered for a job role at the end of the volunteering period?
There are no guarantees but volunteers are considered if vacancy or contract opportunities arise.
